Q&A: The Action Campaign at Thomas More College

What’s your overall goal for the IHL Action Campaign?

To educate people about the Geneva Conventions and international humanitarian law: specifically in the area of torture. This Campaign is intended to prevent further human suffering.

What’s the purpose of your school’s Campaign?

Thomas More

The Thomas More team poses after a session of presentation writing

Our team will cover the truth about the ineffectiveness of torture by raising awareness of the facts, which are in opposition to the portrayal of torture in mainstream media such as movies, books, and video games. Our Campaign will focus on the inaccuracies and insensitivities of these portrayals.

How will you present your Campaign?

Currently we are talking with our own college as well as ROTC about presentations. The Twitter page is up, and so is our Tumblr.

What challenges has your team faced?

Our team is good at individual research which is helpful, but we could truly stand to be more united. We have difficulty finding days in which schedules do not conflict, so we communicate mostly through technology or informal meetings individually.

What are you most looking forward to?

We have now been working for some months on this project. Hopefully everything comes together for the home stretch.
